Support At Home

Everything you need to know

Support at Home is the Australian Government’s program that helps older people stay living independently in their own homes for longer. To access funding, start by contacting My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or applying online at myagedcare.gov.au. You’ll complete a free needs assessment (usually at home) that looks at your health, daily living abilities, and goals. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a support plan and one of eight ongoing funding classifications, plus possible short-term pathways for things like assistive technology, home modifications, restorative care, or end-of-life support. Once your funding is approved and available, you simply choose a provider—such as Best Care Aged Care—to deliver the services.

Your funding can be used for a wide range of approved supports grouped into three categories: clinical care (nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other allied health—fully government-funded with no contribution), independence services (personal care, transport, social support, respite and medication help), and everyday living assistance (cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, gardening and home maintenance). There is also separate funding available for equipment and home modifications so these don’t reduce your main care budget. By covering the practical tasks and health needs that can become challenging with age, Support at Home makes a real difference to quality of life—giving people the freedom to remain in familiar surroundings, stay connected with family and community, maintain dignity and independence, and enjoy greater peace of mind knowing reliable support is in place.
